The first feeling you’ll get in Venice is that of a time traveler. This city used to be one of the richest in Europe, acting as a major trading post in recent centuries, and the buildings and structures erected here between the 13th and 18th century are truly a marvel to witness. One of the best aspects to Venice is how strict they are about historical preservation. This means that as you travel through the famous canals of the city, you’ll be seeing the exact same sights, smells and sounds seen by Napoleon Bonaparte, back in the day.

As a tourist, you should definitely visit Venice’s artistic treasures, including the majestic marble and mosaic palaces that can be seen from the Grand Canal. Next, you should see some of the old churches for their monumental paintings by the Renaissance period’s most notable masters, including Carpaccio and Bellini.
