The Meeting Of Fashion And Art: Stunning Shots In Picturesque Places

By Jhoana C

Since the inception of Instagram, people worldwide have been trying to take stunning shots in different breathtaking locations. The more otherworldly and extraordinary the photo, the more likes and comments it will garner, and the more chances it will be shared on other social media platforms too. Russian photographer Kristina Makeeva is in a league of her own with her amazing and artful fashion shoots. Take the photo in a location that’s iconic and famously representative of a certain place, like, let’s say, Cappadocia in Turkey, and to make it an even more dramatic picture, throw in a beautiful model in a breathtaking gown. True, it can be a hassle to pack dozens of gowns and dresses, but the result is worth the sacrifice. Don’t believe us? Prepare to be awed and inspired with her stunning shots taken in some of the most picturesque places.

Seeing red at the Red Square in Moscow

Red Square is a city square in Moscow that separates the Kremlin from the historic merchant quarter called Kitai-gorod. The place got its name from the word krasnyi, which meant beautiful in Old Russian and later came to mean red.

This photo, taken during winter with the model wearing nothing but a gorgeous billowing red dress, must have left her freezing cold, but it is nothing short of magical. The bright color of the dress, along with the vibrant background, makes you want to go to Moscow and have your photoshoot here too.

Just like china porcelain in Portugal

This photo looks like the model is wearing a china porcelain dress with all the white and blue hues. We only have one word for this, and it’s just gorgeous! This photo was taken in São Francisco Church in Porto, Portugal.

São Francisco Church is noted for its Baroque interior decoration and is located in the historic city center. It was also declared as a World Heritage Site by UNESCO. We are curious about the girl’s exquisite dress, and it looks like it has meters and meters of train trailing behind her as she climbs the steps .

Let’s fly away in Cappadocia

If there’s one thing that Cappadocia in Turkey is known for, it’s that the place doesn’t run out of dramatic backgrounds to please photographers with. Aside from the picturesque location, Cappadocia also has a fascinating history and welcoming locals.

Image courtesy of Sara Barnes/My Modern Met

This is going to be the first of many fabulous dresses photographed against the beauty of Cappadocia. With the hot air balloons in the background the way her dress is flowing in the wind, it’s like she’s asking you to fly away with her. Sign us up!

Walking on water in El Nido

El Nido, Palawan in the Philippines, has been named the most beautiful island in the world for several years, and if you have seen pictures of the island or have been lucky enough to have gone there, you’d know it deserves its title.

This picture of a woman wearing a flowing red dress standing on what we think is a rock taken in El Nido does not even do the island justice, but it’s a good start. Just like the photo, the island is magical, and yes, the water is so clear that it looks like a mirror.

Vogue in Venice

Venice is a place that features Renaissance and Gothic palaces. Piazza San Marco, its central square, is where you can find St. Mark’s Basilica, which has plenty of Byzantine mosaics. Venice is one of the most visited places in the world, and its distinct canals can be seen on thousands of postcards.

Image courtesy of Thai Ticket Major

If there’s one thing you can do in Venice, that is to vogue in a backless red dress like the one in the photo. How would you like to take a photo just like that? The woman’s red dress is a perfect combination with the fiery red skies. The birds flying around her seem like they’re admiring her sense of style.

Wow in the White Temple of Chiang Rai

One of the most spectacular sights in Chiang Rai that people worldwide travel to see is the White Temple. The private Buddhist temple has an architecture so unique that it stands out from the rest of the temples dotting the landscape.

The all-white temple makes you feel as if you’re standing on ice, and with details so intricate, it is common to spend hours in the temple, taking pictures and admiring every inch of the sacred space. This shot captured not only the beauty of the temple but also an enviable Instagram-worthy moment with that remarkable dress.

A vixen in Valensole

Provence, France is popular for its colorful countryside, sunny weather, splendid wine, and delicious food. The region also has impressive acres covered with lavender, and the Valensole plateau is one of the best places to go to when the lavenders are in bloom.

Of course, it follows that when the area is covered with lavenders and the weather is pleasant, you get out of the car, go to the lavender fields and take a picture that will make anyone say, “Wow, I wish I was there.” Which is exactly what this photo portrays.

The breathtaking ballet in Moscow

Russia is home to not one but two of the most famous ballet companies in the world. The Bolshoi and Kirov companies are the sources of some of the best ballet dancers that have ever gained prominence. This ballerina looks pretty in pink tulle, and the smoky background makes her look ethereal and mysterious.

Image courtesy of kagire kj/Akeru Feed

This photo was taken in a former royal estate in Moscow amidst what looks like a garden. The former home of tsars and tsarinas, it also makes a great location to shoot other-worldly photos of the most elegant and beautiful ballerinas.

Magical Mauritius

Mauritius is famous for its white-sandy beaches and long shorelines. If you want a tropical getaway where you can do endless water sports, read a book while basking under the sun, and just pampering yourself in a relaxing getaway, Mauritius is the place to go.

If you want to take amazing and memorable pictures, Mauritius makes an amazing location too. Just look at the photo above if you need further convincing. The dark pink sunset perfectly matches the dress’s color, and the flowing long train adds a touch of drama to an already perfect shot.

Flowers are flowing from the sky

It’s not every day you see flowers falling from the sky, and when that happens, you better be ready with your camera or your cell phone to take a picture that you can show to everyone proudly. The dress the model is wearing in this picture may not be as magnificent as some of the others already shown, but it serves as the perfect back drop to the shower of flowers falling all around her.

And look at that umbrella! It looks like it’s growing blossoms in tones of purple and pink. The fact that her face is hidden adds an air of mystery to the shot. It makes you want to find out who she is and why is she hiding her face under the blooms?

Traipsing in a tulip field

When people talk about tulip fields, they instantly think of Holland. The country has become synonymous with tulips, but did you know that tulips were originally from Turkey? The Turks were the first to cultivate the flowers in 1000 AD.

The tulip was introduced into Western Europe in the late 16th century by a biologist from Vienna, Carolus Clusius. This photo showcases the beauty of tulips, and the woman in the middle of the field looks like she is having a wonderful adventure.

Opulence in the opera

Paris is a city of good food, amazing architecture, and love affairs, either with the people, the city itself, or the gastronomic delights it has to offer. Opera Garnier is a venue you should visit if you enjoy spending hours admiring intricate design and architecture.

The lavishly decorated interiors painted by Jules-Elie Delaunay and Felix-Joseph Barrias represent music’s important history. Because of its luxurious interior décor, people often take photos of themselves in the opera, and in this one, we can see a lady in a black gown being upstaged by the spectacular surroundings she is posing in.

Magnificence in the mosque

When people think of most Russians’ religion, the first thing that would come to mind is Orthodox Christianity. However, Islam is also practiced here, where roughly 10% of the population is Muslim. It’s not uncommon to see mosques all over the country.

The mosques in Russia are on another level. These places of worship do not only serve their purpose, but they also look magnificent. Just look at the Cathedral Mosque in St. Petersburg! Look at the tiles decorating the exteriors. The many shades of blue are just mesmerizing, as is the dress the lady in the photo is wearing.

Let me in the Petit Palais

Wow! Can she look any more dramatic? This fashionista wearing a flowing pink dress standing at the Petit Palais gate makes us pink with envy. Kudos to the photographer for capturing the scene so beautifully; the angle the photo has been taken just adds to the photo’s magesty.

Image courtesy of Maha Hassan/Rumble Run

The Petit Palais’ golden doors are nothing short of grand and luxurious. She looks like she is waiting for someone to open the doors for her and let her in so she could sashay into the art museum and wow everyone there. And by the way, that dress looks like it belongs in the museum.

Looking divine in the desert

The desert is a magical and mysterious barren place where no precipitation occurs. All you see is just miles and miles of sand and dunes. It also makes for an excellent background if you ever want to do a fashion shoot.

Image courtesy of Maha Hassan/Rumble Run

Don’t believe us? Just look at this photo taken at the Rub Al-Khali desert in the United Arab Emirates! The train of the model’s red silk gown with a very long train flows over the sand. The angle, the dress, and the desert is just astonishing.

Glowing in Göreme

Yet another picture showcasing the beauty of Cappadocia, Turkey. The town of Göreme in Cappadocia, Turkey, is famous for its unique rock formations and of course, hot air balloons. The otherworldly landscape was formed by volcanic erosion when thick ash solidified and became soft rock.

Once the Hittite Empire’s heartland, it is now filled with tourists who want to go adventuring and who want to take pictures that are nothing short of stunning. In this picture we see a blond woman wearing a long gold gown draped with fairy lights with the hot air balloons in the background. Just how magical can one photo get?

An escapade to the Glacier Lagoon

If you want to avoid hypothermia, you shouldn’t do what the model in the below photo is doing. We don’t know if she stayed in the icy waters of the lagoon for a few minutes or just for few seconds to get this perfect shot, but regardless we hope she had a warm coat and a steaming cup of tea waiting for her.

Notwithstanding the cold, the model’s blue dress blends in with the icy water very well, and it lends to the magic and magnificence of the photo. Iceland is indeed the perfect place to go to for its amazing sights and a few polar pictures.

When it rains, it pours flowers

Why are we never around when it starts raining flowers? This photo does showcase not only the flowers and the model’s sheer dress, but also the beauty of Cappadocia. Although, by now, we have seen enough photos of Cappadocia that we don’t need further convincing.

As soon as the current situation improves, we’re on the next flight to this beautiful destination. This photo taken during the magical sunset hour makes it possible for us to see the sunset colors through her sheer and gorgeous dress.

Playful in Paris

Paris is just magical. People who have never been there want to go there, and people who have been want to return to the city of love and lights. Paris seems to have a monopoly of the good things in life, including incredible sensory delights, breathtaking sights, and a long and rich history.

Image courtesy of Vera Brejneva/The Place 2

Of course, when you’re in Paris, you need to take photos because as they say, when there is no photo, it didn’t happen. And this photo sums up perfectly all the amazing and whimsical adventures waiting to happen in the city of love.

Lovely in the Louvre

One of the most iconic structures in Paris is the Louvre. The largest museum in the world houses some of the most important works of art, such as the Venus de Milo, Mona Lisa, Winged Victory of Samothrace, and Virgin of the Rocks, to name just a few.

The Louvre can be overwhelming for anyone, and just like the museum, this photo taken at the exteriors of the Louvre is a work of art in its own right. Her flowing blue dress and the ribbons suspended in the air surrounding her seem to guard her against passersby’s and photo bombers.

A wonderland in Moscow, Russia

A central park in Moscow named after Maxim Gorky, Gorky Park, celebrated its 90th anniversary in October 2019. Like other parks in the country, Gorky Park also has carousels and other attractions that children and adults will find delightful.

Image courtesy of HOBOPEEBA/Bravo Great Photo

This enchanting picture of a woman in a pink dress sitting on the carousel is all of our Alice in Wonderland fantasies brought to life. Surrounded by blue and white balloons, it looks like she is going to float away to the skies any time now.

Lady in Blue at the Arc de Triomphe

Another famous and iconic tourist spot in the city of Paris is the Arc de Triomphe. Built to honor the people who laid their lives in the Napoleonic Wars and the French Revolution. Engraved on the top and the inside of the arch are the names of the generals and wars fought.

Not only is the spot steeped in history, but it also makes for a great background if you want to take a photo that will wow everyone. This picture of a lady in a blue gown with her back to the camera lends the photo an air of secretiveness.

Flooded with flowers

This photo makes it look like she is growing from the flowers, or is it the other way around? Are the flowers and plants growing from her? Either way, the model looks quite astonishing being surrounded by all the wildflowers.

Her dress has shades of pink and lilac, and the surrounding flowers make her look like the real-life version of the fairy tale character, Thumbelina. She might be bigger than a thumb, but that doesn’t mean she is any less cute.

Gallivanting at Greenwich Park

People flock to Japan during spring to witness the Cherry Blossoms or Sakura. However, Japan is not the only place where people can see the magical flowers blossoming in spring. You can also witness them in Greenwich Park in London.

This photo is a cherry blossom dream becoming beautifully real. The cherry blossom trees perfectly frame the lady wearing a pink dress, bending down and feeding her adorable dog. And the different shades of pink and the lighting of the shot make it even more extraordinary.

Lovely lady in Lake Baikal

Lake Baikal is located in southern Siberia, and it is so large that it is often mistaken for a sea. The deepest and oldest lake in the world is famous for its crystal clear waters and unique wildlife that you won’t see anywhere else.

Image courtesy of Kristina Makeeva/The Inspiration Grid

This photo was taken in Lake Baikal, and we are wondering how the lady was able to stand the cold, as demonstrated by the snow-covered rocks jutting out from the lake. She might not be in danger of falling on thin ice, but she is in danger of getting ill- but we think the beauty of the shot makes it all worth it.

Real-life Elsa in Russia

If you have little children in your home, you would have probably seen the movie Frozen at least a hundred times because tiny tots just love watching it over and over again. Thousands of children have since frolicked in the snow singing,Let it go. Let it go.”

This picture is the epitome of the movie Frozen and the lady’s gown in the photo is even more beautiful than anything we saw in the movie. Who wouldn’t want to be photographed in such a spectacular head-turning dress?

Merrymaking in the Maldives

Officially named the Republic of the Maldives, people flock to the islands for a lot of fun in the sun. When you go there, remember to take ample sun protection as all the merrymaking can make you forget that you’re under intense heat.

We hope that the model in this photo put on enough sunscreen before venturing out for this photoshoot. Although it’s a pity that the red gown had to be soaking wet as she sat on the edge of the pool, the blues and the red make for an interesting masterpiece.

Glowing in the dark

Have you ever worn a glowing gown? Neither have we. We’d be scrambling to get things right doing so, wondering how to turn off the lights and trying our very best not to step on the illuminations. This lady, though, wears it with grace.

Image courtesy of Kristina Makeeva/Bored Panda

In the background is the desert at night with its starry skies. It must have been a magical experience with all the lights not only on her dress but in the night skies too. We’re loving the warm glow from the fairy bulbs and indeed, its looks like a scene right out of a fantasy.

Basking at the Bolshoi

The Bolshoi Theatre in Russia is almost 250 years old. Its long history began in 1775 when Prince Pyotr Urusov was granted permission by Empress Catherine II to open a public theater. Tourists and locals alike want to watch performances in the iconic theatre.

Image courtesy of Dasha Fomina/The Culture Trip

It is said that tickets are sold out three months before the show, so you better get your tickets early. This ballerina may not have been able to go inside and watch the show or perform in the theatre, but she was able to do the next best thing, to get an amazing photo outside.

You can never run out of amazing photos at Cappadocia

It seems that before lockdowns were implemented all over the world, people flocked to Cappadocia, Turkey, to capture its beauty and to make sure they have stunning photos of themselves with the fairy chimneys and hot air balloons as backgrounds.

So it makes sense that it serves as an ideal location for a fashion shoot too. The model’s fiery red dress is passion personified. The hot air balloons look like they were put into specific positions just to frame her. This is truly a breathtaking shot.

Lady in white

If you have gone this far without being convinced to go to all the wonderful places on this list, there must be something wrong. All these pictures are temping us to travel somewhere with a ball gown in our checked-in luggage and a photographer in tow.

We don’t even know where the tulle ends and where the sky starts with this photo. All the whites just merge in together, and we don’t know any better. The model’s dress and the skies also look like they are forming the shape of a heart in homage to the beauty of this shot.

Dancing through it all

If there are a few things Russia has plenty of, they are long-legged models and some of the world’s best ballet dancers. This lady dancing ballet on one of Moscow’s Russian roads on her bare feet evokes pure joy.

It looks like she could dance through everything, the sorrows, as well as the joy. The fireworks in the background also seem to celebrate her artistry and the satisfied look on her face. It’s as if she has just nailed an extremely complicated dance step.

Prancing with the pigeons

Venice has plenty of pigeons. St. Mark’s Square is one of the places where they like to convene because tourists and locals like to feed them and want the birds to land on them. This lady must have purchased plenty of pigeon food from the vendors in the square.

Image courtesy of Jennifer Newton/The Daily Mail

The pigeons are all flocking to her. Maybe they are eager to be included in the picture and know that it is the perfect opportunity to steal the model’s thunder? Her gigantic dress billowing out behind her is just as astonishing too.

The industrial dancer

We can’t get enough of Russia and the country’s ballet dancers. Graceful, lithe, and artistic, they can convey plenty of stories with their every move. A flick of the hand here and a look there, and we are all mesmerized.

This ballet dancer dancing her heart out in Zaryadye Park in Moscow seems to be merging with the background, thanks to her movement and her dress. She has plenty of stories to tell, and she hasn’t let out all of her secrets with just one photo.

Festive fairy

Moscow, just like most places in Europe, is quite festive during the winter holidays. Lights are strung, festive décor is brought out, and plazas and squares are filled with merrymaking, songs, and the peals of laughter from all the excited children.

This young girl seems to be having an absolute ball as she dances and jumps while being surrounded by a variety of light displays. Being in the middle of a light vortex while wearing a white dress makes her look angelic.

Charming Cappadocia

Cappadocia doesn’t seem to run out of photogenic places and the most wonderful pictures. If you take a picture in Cappadocia, the one thing that you would never miss are the hundreds of balloons dotting the sky when the weather is fair.

This model put on a voluminous sheer dress and went out to greet the beautiful Cappadocia sunrise. Who wouldn’t wake up happy with a sight like this? We also heard that a full Turkish breakfast would put a smile on your face too.

Bubbles at the bridge

Every nook and cranny in Paris seems to be fit for a photoshoot. There are plenty of corners and locations where you can pose like a model and get a photo that is going to enthrall everyone. Pont Alexandre III is one such place.

Look at the fashionista in the above photo. She looks lovely and happy being surrounded by bubbles while on the bridge. She looks like she came from a fairytale location and decided to grace Paris with her beauty by appearing at Pont Alexandre III.

Beauty in Bloom

Tulips are some of the most beautiful flowers in the world. The flower requires a winter chill, rich soil, a lot of sunlight, and proper planting to bloom beautifully. Tulips come in a variety of colors, forms, and sizes.

If you want to see tulips adorning the fields, it will be helpful to know that they bloom from March to May. To stand in a field of tulips is on a lot of people’s bucket lists. This girl posing in the photo has finally realized her dream, and she was delighted with it.

Fantastic fairy at the Rub’ Al Khali

This photo of a lady sitting in the desert at sunset with an illuminated dress is surreal. We can’t tell where the golden dress ends and where the sand stars; nevertheless, it makes for an extraordinarily beautiful picture.

Image courtesy of Bravo Great Photo

They also thought of giving the dress and picture a touch of fantasy by surrounding the dress and the lady with fairy lights. She looks like a majestic desert queen looking out over her kingdom, and we are loving the regal vibes of this shot.

Lying on a field of flowers

The Netherlands seems to be one huge field of flowers, especially during springtime and is also one of the leading markets for flowers. The country’s flower industry is dynamic and is defined by three components; the growers, the wholesalers, and the retailers.

This photo taken by a drone, we assume, shows a beautiful field of red flowers. Now we’re not quite sure what type of flowers are on the field, but they look astounding. Take a closer look, and you’ll be able to see a woman in a white dress lying in one of the clear gaps between the fields.

A golden fairy in GUM

GUM is one of the main department stores in various Soviet Union cities. Just like most retail establishments, GUM is also covered in festive lighting when the holiday season rolls around. How else are you going to attract customers if your store looks glum?

This picture taken at the GUM makes the lady looks as if she is wrapped in ribbons. Is she the Christmas present someone has been praying for fervently? The golden silk fabric shines, and the surrounding lights make the picture look magical.

Dancing in dreamland

This ballet dancer looks like she plie’d and pirouetted right out of the Bolshoi and onto the city streets. We love the contrast between the buildings and the sheer fabric of her dress. The sashes blowing around her and the falling fairy lights make it a beautiful scene,

This is definitely a show-stopping sight, and even although she is dancing in the middle of the road, no one dares interrupt her performance. We’re just wondering why there aren’t more people trying to take a closer look at her.

Icy green

We think that Anna and Elsa of Frozen fame had a lot to do with this photoshoot. Firstly, it’s taken in frozen Lake Baikal in Russia, the deepest lake in the world, and secondly, there’s ice and snow. We just hope the model had somewhere warm to thaw out after the shoot was over..

The train of the model’s dress looks like it’s a shade of blue and green, the same color as the ice on the frozen lake she is standing on. There’s only one question in our head there, how can she stand there and not shiver?

Frolicking in the fairy chimneys

To complete this list is another picture taken at Cappadocia, Turkey. We are packing our bags as soon as possible so that we can witness this otherworldly location with our own eyes. The fairy chimneys of the UNESCO World Heritage site can be seen in the background.

The lady in the photo looks like she is a mythical creature emerging from the earth, with her long chiffon dress blowing in the wind. It seems that the photo was taken during sunset, so that the background hues makes the pink and purple shades of her dress pop even more. We have one word to sum this up, and that’s stunning.
