45 “Rate My Plate” Dishes That Left Us Wanting To Stay Hungry

By Nikita D

Rate My Plate has become a Facebook phenomenon where people rate dishes. Just as the name suggests, this Facebook page allows people to share some of the best or the worst dishes they have ever made. The page usually leans on the worst dishes, and the audience loves to rate these unappetizing plates. If you ever visit “Rate My Plate,” you will see some of the best and worst meals that have ever been made. The page has over 2.5 million likes, and it just demonstrates how popular kitchen flops and truimphs really are. Not only on Facebook, but this trend has also caught on on Instagram and Twitter as well. Just on Instagram, this #RateMyPlate has over 28,000 posts.

Easter Lunch

Easter is a fun holiday for kids that families love to celebrate, which is probably why this mom decided to make a thoughtful easter breakfast for them. She used eggs, sausages and some greens to make a bunny rabbit.

Image: Facebook/RateMyPlate/Amanda R

However, this rabbit is far from cute. The way those two eggs are staring seems like they are staring into your soul. Imagine waking up as a kid and seeing this for breakfast. We would run far away and probably never return!

Husband’s Birthday

Imagine this: it’s your husband’s birthday in a few days, and you want to bake a cake for him. Maybe a cake with his face on it. How cool would that be? Being the creative genius that you are, you pick some edible eyes and teeth.

Image: Facebook/RateMyPlate/nancy

You bake a chocolate cake, put some chocolate bars on top, and eyes and teeth where it should be. Unfortunately, this just looks like a Halloween cake more than anything else. The teeth also seem to have a life of their own!

Egg Caramba

Probably not as bad as some of the other treats on the list, but this Simpson’s egg dish has a fanbase of its own. Poor Lisa looks like someone sat on her face, and also, she probably needs braces. But, the creativity behind this humble egg dish is astounding.

Image: Facebook/RateMyPlate/mary.p

This egg caramba probably doesn’t deserve to be eaten. The way they are looking at different things with their tongues out also feels like they are severely dehydrated. Probably not what Mary was going for. No one should be served a dish this scary.

Homemade Kebab Wrap

This homemade kebab wrap by Graeme C was met with many critical reviews. We are not even sure what kind of weird meat that is. It looks totally raw and inedible. He had tried to make it look nice with that mayonnaise on top, but it just looks even worse.

Image: Facebook/RateMyPlate/Graeme C

Some users said that this kebab wrap has the same appeal as “roadkill”. Another user also compared this horrible homemade kebab dish to a bowel movement. We are pretty certain this dish belongs in the bin and nowhere else.

Tortoise Dinner

Special props go to this man, Harri, who made his dinner in the shape of a tortoise. It is made with rosemary, onion, and baked potato under the shell. What’s with that funny tongue, though! Truly hilarious. People have also commented that this is the stuff of bad dreams.

Image: Facebook/RateMyPlate/harri

Well, it looks kinda cute. Not sure how it tastes. One thing is for sure: a lot of imagination has gone into this meal. That onion-shaped head is also really creative if nothing else. And those potato-shaped legs- all we can say is props to Harri for his effort.

Skeleton Shaped Cake

It’s your friend’s birthday, and you think about making a cake. But why should you bake a normal cake? You decide to bake a cake with a skeleton’s face, but that goes horribly wrong and ends up looking scarier than you wanted.

Image: Facebook/RateMyPlate/Viktor Hulé

The teeth are all crooked, and the eyes seem to have a life of their own. The only good part of the cake seems like the wafers. The other parts look so unappealing; even the family dog would turn his nose up at this lot. The 23rd cake from hell!

A Homemade Shepherd’s Moussaka

Another attempt at making a dish that turned out really bad is this homemade shepherd’s moussaka. It looked far from pleasing to the eye, and no one should have to eat that ever. Users’ comments have also been hilarious on this post.

Image: Facebook/RateMyPlate/dana

Some users even commented that it looks like a shepherd emptied his insides on the plate. We surely do agree. We have no idea what Dana was thinking when she was making this or even when she posted it for users to rate- she must have known the comments wouldn’t be favorable.

Ghost Pancakes

Pancakes can be made into any shape, but why not make them in the shape of ghosts! Look how absolutely adorable these pancakes look. They are almost too cute to eat, aren’t they? But some people’s opinions differ. These are people with Trypophobia.

Image: Facebook/RateMyPlate/Dawn Kate?

Tyro..what? It is revulsion at the sight of tiny holes or bumps. Well, we are sure those people are few. For others, these pancakes may be the cutest thing they can eat early in the morning for breakfast. What do you think?

Labradoodle

This unique noodle dish called “Labranoodle” was made by Mary P. This is probably one of the classics here at “Rate My Plate”. The person who made the dish even felt it necessary to watermark the photo. A true artist!

Image: Facebook/ RateMyPlate/Mary P

A lot of people compared this dish to their cute Labradoodles. But, unfortunately, this dish is far from culinary excellence. Probably, the only thing good about this dish is the bacon. Everyone likes bacon. But, the rest of it, maybe even the dog would refuse.

Scary Smilies

Lauren thought of making homemade smilies for her kids. And not only do they look incredibly scary, but she should never even show them to her kids. This stuff is made of nightmares! Just look at their eyes, and it will haunt you.

Image: Facebook/RateMyPlate/Lauren S

Even if Lauren thinks that her culinary masterpiece deserves a place on Rate My Plate, we are sure she should not eat these. She should throw them and rather chowed down on the plastic bag they came in, that would be better.

Minion Cake

Which kid does not like minions? This mom thought of making a minion shaped cake for her children. Everything went well, from the trademark yellow color to the blue shorts. But, the final result looks like an egg went bad.

Image: Facebook/RateMyPlate/ZY Baha

Also, his clothes seem torn too. It is almost not a bad effort and this mom probably just needs some practice. But it is bad enough to be a part of the Rate My Plate list, unfortunately. What are your thoughts on this?

A Scary Looking Cookie Monster

Mary thought of baking a cute looking cookie monster, but unfortunately, it has just ended up looking scary as hell. We are not even sure what those weird looking eyes are made of. The only good thing about this is that cookie on the plate, and even that looks over baked.

Image: Facebook/RateMyPlate/Mary

Otherwise, no one should have to eat that monstrosity. Though, we are sure Mary meant well. And we do not even want to get into what is that thing in the cookie monster’s mouth. The more we stare, the more weird it looks.

Classic Mushrooms on Toast

Lauren decided to make “classic mushrooms on toast” for breakfast. We are all for experimenting, but this is nowhere near “classic.” To put it lightly, it just looks like poop on bread. And that is one of the good comments on this post.

Image: Facebook/RateMyPlate/Lauren G

People have also written that no amount of Listerine would save you from the taste of this absolutely horrendous dish. We are not even sure how Lauren made this questionably strange toast, which no one should ever have to eat.

Cheesy Bean Pasta

Pasta is not exactly a dish that requires a lot of practice. Especially with over the counter sauces available, cooking pasta can be a breeze. However, this pasta, bacon, and cheese dish is just another kind of wrong on every level.

Image: Facebook/RateMyPlate

The “sauce” on the pasta dish is made up of beans! And for some reason, there is an egg floating on it. Some people called it the classic “I forgot grocery shopping meal”. Even though we are sure that cereal would have tasted better.

Barbie Q Chicken

You have probably seen all kinds of chicken dishes imaginable. From a chicken pie to butter chicken, but this is probably a variety you have never seen. A Barbie Q chicken. Well, what is that even? This looks like a Barbie without all that airbrushing.

Image: twitter.com/ratemyplatenow

Some users even commented that this is Barbie 5 years after Ken proposing to her. Well, it sure does look like she is enjoying her time, though. It seems almost too real to be a chicken. The way her legs are folded just adds to this way out expression of creativity.

Stegosaurus Cake

Bethy wanted to bake a dinosaur cake for her kids. But, unfortunately, it looks like a disaster. The teeth look like some grandma’s dentures, and the green cake looks like a big pile of goop. The kids would be scared at just the sight of this.

Image: Facebook/RateMyPlate/Bethy M

It looks like the cake fell on the floor, and Bethy decided to pour some green stuff on it. We are pretty sure she should not even show this to her kids because of how it looks. She should probably never even attempt this again.

Sausages with Potatoes and salad cream

This one probably another contender for the worst plate of food on Rate My Plate, just due to the lack of effort. Stanley has literally cut a few potatoes and served them with something that looks like sausages. We aren’t sure what it is.

Image: Facebook/RateMyPlate/stanley

Some users commented that they have been on this page for long and this is the saddest plate of food they have ever seen. Others said how this meal would look great in a pedal bin. Truly, Stanley should get an award for putting this on his plate.

Cream Cheese on a Roll

Dave made this cream cheese on a roll, scrambled egg with Worcestershire Sauce thinking that it might be his best meal ever. But, we dont even want to say what that looks like, to put it mildly. The thick butter spread is also horrifying.

Image: Facebook/RateMyPlate/dave

The way the egg looks is even more disastrous. It takes a really bad cook to make something as simple as an egg look that bad! Dave should probably be banned from entering the kitchen after this scary horror show.

Homemade Birthday Cake

We are not sure what Beckie was thinking when making this. It looks like a 5-year-old kid made it, and we are sure even he would have done a better job. This cake would just scar the poor birthday kid.

Image: Facebook/RateMyPlate/beckie

This hilarious attempt at a hedgehog cake amused people and even scared them. People said, kill the thing before it lays eggs or attacks someone! And we are with those people. Something like this should be just put in the dustbin.

Seafood Risotto

We are not sure where to even start with this one. This weird looking seafood risotto was created by Will S for his lunch. To even classify this as a meal is a lot. Like one comment said, “He filled his bucket at the beach and threw it in a dish.”

Image: Facebook/RateMyPlate/Will S

What is that black sauce? No one can figure it out. Squid ink, maybe? And to even serve this to someone is just plain rude. It looks like he tossed some shells in the sand and put it in a bowl. Probably, one of the worst “Rate My Plate” dishes ever.

Bacon, Eggs and Beans

It is challenging to make bad eggs. But Carol here not only managed to screw up eggs but even her bacon and beans! This is actually the legendary Rate My Plate post that started it all. This post went viral, and we can see why.

Image: Facebook/RateMyPlate/carol

It received more than 350,000 comments and 36,000 shares. Comments on this post ranged from, “What did you use to flip the eggs over with Carol? A whisk?” to “How do you like your eggs, poached, scrambled or fried? Yes please.”

Roast Chicken Dinner

Taylor planned to make a yummy roast chicken dinner for her family. But, she somehow forgot the most important thing – to roast the chicken! The chicken on the plate looks almost raw. No one should have to eat that monstrosity.

Image: Facebook/RateMyPlate/taylor

Some comments said, “Leave the chicken in the comments, it will be roasted enough”. We are not sure if Taylor has ever had a decent chicken in her life, otherwise, why would anyone think this is fit to be put on a plate. We personally like to call this one Salmonella on a plate.

Spinach and Avocado Soup

This horrendous looking spinach and avocado soup was served to this user by Cohen P. Why is this looking like neon green slime, we cannot fathom. This looks like a green food coloring in water. What was Cohen thinking while making this?

Image: Facebook/RateMyPlate

Users, of course, had a lot to say about this soup. A user said she loves soup, but this is a “strong no” from her. We don’t even want to get into what is floating on top of the soup. Probably the worst soup we have seen.

Homemade Calzone

Have you ever put something in the oven and completely forgotten about it? Just to smell something burning later and realizing that you burnt your dinner in the oven. That is what happened to poor Karen and her calzones too.

Image: Facebook/RateMyPlate/ karen

She very thoughtfully made tasty calzones and put them in the oven, only to see later that the calzone is completely charred. Some users commented on how the calzone is cooked to perfection. Those don’t deserve to be on any plate at all.

Minced Feet Dish with Onions

This horrific feet dish was made by Colleen on Halloween. Even the sight of anything shaped like feet is unsettling, but Colleen went ahead and made an entire minced feet dish complete with ketchup “blood” oozing. Those toenails with onions had people screaming.

Image: Facebook/RateMyPlate/colleen

That fake blood and exposed bones were so off putting- that even Halloween couldnt save this dish from being an absolute fail. We are pretty sure no one would have eaten this dish at the party. Users were pretty scandalised at how Colleen even thought of this absolutely scary dish.

Chips and Mince

Everyone likes a good dish of chips and mince, but what John B did here is absolutely horrendous. Some users even commented that this dish not only looks like the contents of a toilet but even belongs there. Well, we totally agree.

Image: Facebook/RateMyPlate/john B

Others said that even those little corn kernels seem to be floating in order to stay afloat and not drown in that disgraceful pond of mince. This dish also goes down the legendary Rate My Plate endeavors that should never be attempted again.

Breakfast by Amelia G

We are not even sure where to begin with this. There is something on the plate that looks like chicken and peas, but we are not sure what the rest of that pile of sick is. It looks like Amelia took a picture after she ate it and threw it up.

Image: Facebook/RateMyPlate/Amelia

Other users compared the dish to a pile of dog sick. They aren’t really wrong. This dish really looks horrendous and inedible. Just a pile of something slapped on to the plate. This meal by Amelia belongs in the “Crimes Committed Against Food” hall of shame

A Dinner Worth Forgetting

Coming home after a hard day’s work, all you want to do is have a great dinner and just laze around on the couch. But, what if your roommate serves you a dinner consisting of buttered bread and a packet of chips.

Image: Facebook/RateMyPlate

Clearly, someone forgot to do grocery shopping. Probably the worst plate of food seen on Rate My Plate. If we can even call it food, that is. We definitely feel for this person who just wanted a nice hot meal—poor fellow.

Fry Up Breakfast

This breakfast is just all kinds of wrong. Just the combination of corn, half-cooked bacon, and fries look awful. They even tried to make it posh with a folded napkin on the side of the plate! Not that it is doing the dish any favors.

Image: Facebook/RateMyPlate

Plus, for some reason, that bacon is shaped like a hedgehog, and even he looks disappointed to be there. Users were, of course, horrified with the way this dish looks. They commented that the only thing good about this place is the napkin.

Dippy Eggs and Soldiers

How someone can undercook eggs so badly is something we will have to learn from Richie. Plus, why are the eggs sitting on that egg carton is beyond us. A user even commented that there must be some nice bacteria on that carton.

Image: Facebook/RateMyPlate/Richie

It looks like undercooked eggs with a side of contamination. And if you look closely, the shell of the eggs is still on!! Totally inedible above everything else. The only good part about this dish is that plate. Good luck to Richie for his meals.

Ham and Eggs

Another saga of an undercooked meal. Probably this guy was just in too much of a hurry to eat and turned off the gas a few minutes too soon. The eggs look like they have barely been cooked, and the ham is another story.

Image: Facebook/RateMyPlate

It looks like he has just popped the ham on the plate without cooking it at all. One user commented that the egg still has some hen’s beak on it! The chips almost look okay, but even they could have been cooked a little longer.

Beans and Egg Dish

This beans and egg dish by Stanley makes us feel like how can anyone screw up something so simple. Why are the beans black in color is a mystery that we will never know about. Even the fried egg looks really sad.

Image: Facebook/RateMyPlate/Stanley

Some users commented that the plate looks like sadness, disappointment, and despair at the same time. At the same time, others suggested that he should just eat at work in the future and not try to work so hard at preparing a meal at home.

A Hot Dog with Cheese

Is it even possible for cheese to look absolutely disgusting? Yup. Just take a look at this hot dog with cheese made by Ted. That cheese looks pretty close to puke all over that poor hot dog. Why would someone do this? We have no clue.

Image: Facebook/RateMyPlate/Ted

Some people compared this hot dog to hospital food, which moms might bring after surgery. Others said that this dish looks like it was made by a two-year-old. A user even said that the “cheese” looks like something else very questionable.

Homemade Sausage and Egg Muffin

Where to even start with this one, the sausage looks like it has seen better days, and the burger looks like a bunch of stones stacked on top of one another. And the egg seems to be missing from this egg muffin.

Image: Facebook/RateMyPlate

Why is that sausage so small, we honestly can’t say Someone even compared those dry buns to the heels of their foot in the middle of a harsh winter. Another user said, that this looks like 2020 in the form of a burger – reeking of disappointment and cheap cheese.

Cupcakes Made From Scratch

It is truly commendable how Rakhee has mentioned that she made cupcakes from “scratch.” It is difficult to spot the cupcakes in that suspicious white powder. Users have commented that instead of making from scratch, she should try actual cake ingredients.

Image: Facebook/RateMyPlate/ Rakhee

Others have commented on how she has used an obscene amount of icing sugar to try to distract from the tragedy that these cupcakes are. Also, these cakes are totally flat and have not risen at all. A true tragedy, just like this year.

Homemade Lemon Meringue Pie

The fact that it does not look like a lemon meringue pie in the least -says it all. Some users have commented what a splendid effort it is at a lemon meringue. The meringue is totally burnt, and the lemon curd is split.

Image: Facebook/RateMyPlate

People also joked that it looks like he dropped it, and thus it looks like this. How can a pie look so bad is beyond us. This dish only belongs in the bin and nowhere else. Since it’s so slippery, it will slide easily.

An Egg

Probably the simplest meal in the world, but Phoebe still managed to screw it up. Some users commented about how the dish lacked some elements like bacon, sausage, beef, and mushrooms. This glorious masterpiece sure deserves recognition on Rate My Plate.

Image: Facebook/RateMyPlate

A user commented that all she had to cook was an egg, and she still managed to do it wrong. Thank God we weren’t subjected to seeing the results of the rest of the breakfast. This simple and humble egg deserves to be in a museum, or at least kept company by a piece of toast.

Tonight’s Tea

Apart from the cheese grated over the top of whatever that stuff is, everything looks inedible. Special mention to those wormy looking things coming out to protest against this ghastly meal. It is a special talent to be able to ruin someones appetite with this offering.

Image: Facebook/RateMyPlate/Becca

Some users commented on how Becca has redeemed the page and bought this plate of abomination here. This is what users come to the page for, to see thede extraordinary masterpieces—truly sensational cooking by Becca. Next time, she should stay away from the kitchen- and just order pizza instead.

Marinated Chicken Tikka

This marinated chicken tikka by Liam almost does not belong to the page. The flatbreads seem perfect, and so does the mint sauce with chicken. But once you look at the color of that chicken, there is no going back.

Image: Facebook/RateMyPlate/Liam

Users have commented about the excess chemical coloration and also how the orange colored chicken looks like a certain someone who does not want to leave 1600 Pennsylvania Avenue. Truly hilarious. Liam truly does need to ease up on the food coloring.

Lousy Dinner

Imagine your friend has invited you for dinner and you eagerly accept and look forward to a good meal. Everything is good and well till you see the plate of food. A few lousy fries, some burnt onion rings and over boiled veggies.

Image: Facebook/RateMyPlate

You decide mentally to never go over for dinner again! The only thing edible on that plate is the ketchup. Users commented that instead of putting up such a bad plate of food. We hope there was a drive-through burger joint on the way home.

Homemade Sponge for Afters

It truly looks like a sponge from the kitchen sink has been put on a plate to pass off as food. And what even is that white foamy stuff? Some people joked how they all have “made” homemade sponges and it’s lying in their sink.

Image: Facebook/RateMyPlate

We cant even begin to guess the ingedients of this ill fated attempt. This amazing plate of food truly belongs on the Rate My Plate page. This is the stuff people love looking at and making fun of. Truly amazing culinary skills.

Cheese on Toast

This cheese on toast looks like a cheesy Christmas tree. A user said how splendid this looks apart from the cheese and the toast. The addition of tomatoes and red onion just makes it look even worse than it is.

Image: Facebook/RateMyPlate

People have commented as to what that green topping is on the cheese. Some have said it looks like the cheese has gone bad and that he was meant to scrape off the yucky green algae from the cheese first!

Roasted Dish

Someone had made a “roasted dish” but with only carrots! Users were shocked to see this really weird attempt. Laziness reached another level with this meal. How can anyone even think of making a dish entirely with carrots? This is one recipe we will not be asking for.

Image: Facebook/RateMyPlate

Plus, it is served with something that looks like bread? That entire ensemble looks horrendous, and we are sure it must have tasted even worse. Not even rabbits would be tempted to tuck into this plate of goop.

Tiger Bread Cheese on Toast with Pepper

This cheese on toast by Emma is looking all kinds of raw. It appears that it has been cooked with the help of a candle flame, seeing how raw and uncooked that cheese is. Looks like she was in a hurry to eat.

Image: Facebook/RateMyPlate/Emma

Some users have said that the addition of “pepper” takes this humble, uncooked cheese on toast to a whole new level. It almost looks like a yellow sponge that no one should have to eat. Another few minutes under the grill is all that sthis plate of food needed to avoid landing up on this list.

Lets Have Some Cake With Our Frosting

This lovely carrot cake by Emma has one ingredient almost missing – the cake. The cake almost looks like a fat crust. Those decorative carrots on the cake do not exactly hide the truth that underneath that 15-inch layer of frosting, there is almost no cake in this carrot cake.

Image: Facebook/RateMyPlate/Emma

Looks like Emma wanted to flake out after she forgot to put the carrots in the batter. Some users have also said that the cake looks too perfect to be on the page, but all that does is prove the age-old saying that looks can be deceiving.
