And while at the moment of our vacation these experiences are anything but funny, when we look back at the past, we can only laugh as we think of them. During the COVID-19 pandemic, we basically had to reduce our number of trips to zero. Who doesn’t know Abbey Road? The iconic location where The Beatles shot the picture for their album cover has since become popular all over the world. You just can’t travel to London and not visit Abbey Road! Though we must admit that some people don’t have that good of a time there…

This guy visited Abbey Road in hopes of seeing zebras. Yes, we know that this sounds absurd — but it’s true. No zebras are walking freely in London, but there are zebra crossings everywhere in the city. What this guy clearly doesn’t know is that what Brits call a “zebra crossing” is what Americans call a “crosswalk”!

Someone is bitter!

When we think of Paris, one of the first things that come to mind is romance. “The City of Love,” as it is fondly known, has many iconic landmarks, but the Eiffel Tower is easily the most globally recognized one. It is certainly a popular destination among lovers!

Well, maybe not everyone understands that! Obviously, this person is quite outraged that the Eiffel Tower is considered a symbol of love — they’re even mocking couples that pose for pictures at its base. We wonder if someone broke this person’s heart in Paris!

The Red Mosque?

The Blue Mosque in Turkey is one of the most well-known European destinations. Thousands upon thousands of tourists visit this mosque and take beautiful pictures. The name “Blue Mosque” was given to this mosque thanks to the blue tiles that decorate its walls. However, not everyone agrees with this name, apparently:

According to this guy, this mosque should be called “The Red Mosque” because, although its walls (and its roof) are blue, the red carpet that lines the entire floor makes it look like the mosque itself is red! If only he visited the mosque at night, he would understand why it’s called “Blue,” and not red!

Oh, really?

Who, in their right mind, has never heard of the Colosseum before? Italy is home to several iconic landmarks, and this amphitheater is just one of them. Built around 70 AD, the Colosseum was meant to be a place where Roman citizens would go to entertain themselves by watching bloody sports in the grounds.

Considering that the Colosseum is one of the oldest constructions on the planet and that it has endured many natural disasters, it’s not that hard to guess why it looks the way it does. However, this guy certainly missed one or two History lessons in school and was outraged that the Colosseum was in ruins!

Just a bunch of concrete!

Like most other European countries, Portugal has a rich and vibrant history — and its history is shown through the many historic buildings across the nation. Built in the early 1870s, the Praça do Comercio in Lisbon is a popular destination in Portugal — but not every tourist understands why.

Praça do Comercio is adorned with statues, and it was once the palace yard for the Portuguese monarchy. We suppose that this is a very important location for those who want to learn more about Portugal’s history — which obviously isn’t the case with this guy! In his opinion, Praça do Comercio is just a bunch of concrete.

The Louvre Mall?

When the topic at hand is museums, we immediately think of the Louvre Museum in Paris, the most famous museum on the planet. Home to masterpieces that include the Mona Lisa, this museum is visited by millions of tourists every year. However, some of these tourists aren’t that impressed:

According to this reviewer, the Louvre Museum can be compared to a mall, considering how large and how crowded it is! Instead of appreciating the artworks, this person could only think of leaving the museum, but they found it hard to even find an exit!

What’s the big deal?

Have you ever seen a salt sculpture? What about a salt mine turned historical monument? Well, that’s what happened to the Wieliczka Salt Mine in Poland, which is now a museum that features plenty of attractions for visitors, including chapels that are carved out of salt! This Yelp reviewer visited the famous salt mine in Poland — but they didn’t think that four chapels and several sculptures made entirely of salt were that big of a deal! If the amount of salt bothered this person, we can only question why they visited a salt mine in the first place!

The staff needs to work on their attitude!

Buckingham Palace is easily one of the most popular locations among tourists visiting England — even more so nowadays, considering the global success of the hit show, The Crown, which depicts a factual interpretation of the Royal Family. Apparently, the staff at the palace needs to treat guests better, however…

We’re not sure why this Yelp reviewer was invited to Buckingham Palace as a guest of honor, but they made sure to leave a review expressing their disappointment regarding the way they were treated. All we can think is, “Hey, at least you were visiting the Palace as a guest of honor, and not as a mere tourist”!

Weeds everywhere!

There are plenty of reasons why people never visit the same place more than one time. Maybe they didn’t like that a certain place was overcrowded. Maybe they didn’t appreciate the ambiance or the looks of that place. But do you know someone who was outraged because the gardens of a certain landmark weren’t trimmed to their liking?

We sure don’t know anyone like that! If you visit Vienna, you’ll have countless reasons to feel happy all the time — it’s easily one of the most beautiful cities in the world, after all! This person, however, couldn’t appreciate their surroundings because they were too busy worrying that the bushes in the gardens weren’t trimmed!

Anything but starry!

Van Gogh is easily the most famous post-impressionist painter. His talent and creativity immortalized him in our society, as his paintings will forever be his legacy. And that’s why so many people want to visit the Van Gogh Museum!

When people visit museums, they naturally want to appreciate the canonical works that are so well-known among art lovers. If you want to see Van Gogh’s most famous paintings, though, this reviewer says that you won’t find them at the Van Gogh Museum. That’s right: you won’t find the best Van Gogh paintings at the Van Gogh Museum!

What did you expect?

The Hagia Sophia Cathedral in Turkey is one of the country’s top-rated attractions, visited by tourists from all over the world. This monument was first opened in 537 AD and is a perfect example of Byzantine Architecture, which is one of the reasons why the Hagia Sophia is so well-known.

When this woman visited the cathedral, she wasn’t impressed at all. In her opinion, the interior of the Hagia Sophia wasn’t that big of a deal. In addition to that, she didn’t appreciate that the cathedral was “falling apart.” We wonder what did she expect from a monument that was built so many centuries ago!

A dark place!

When we travel abroad, we expect to have the best time of our lives. Traveling is an opportunity to see new places, have new experiences, and learn more about the beautiful world we live in. This guy, however, had a personally awful experience as he visited the iconic Duomo di Milano in Italy.

If you don’t know this location, all you have to know is that the Duomo is a gothic cathedral that was built back in the 1300s. Considering that it’s a gothic building, it’s only natural that the Duomo is “dark and imposing,” so we’re not sure why this guy didn’t appreciate that!

I’d much rather visit my friend!

Museums are the perfect place for tourists to appreciate art and history. Some museums are more popular than others. Thus they get to exhibit some of the most famous artworks in the world. The British Museum, for instance, is an incredibly renowned museum that exhibits items from all over!

This museum is home to more than 7 million exhibits collected from all continents, and that is pretty remarkable. However, some people don’t find it that impressive. For example, this person thought that their friend’s room could compare to the British Museum!

A fake castle? 

Built specifically for the King Ludwig II of Bavaria, the Neuschwanstein Castle in Germany is one of the most popular castles in Europe. This castle’s design is incredibly beautiful, and it endured both World Wars without suffering as much as a scratch! According to the visitor’s log, over 60 million people have visited the Neuschwanstein Castle!

The thing is: one of these 60 million visitors was less than impressed after seeing the castle for the first time. According to this person, Neuschwanstein Castle cannot be considered a castle because no royalty lived in it (King Ludwig II died before construction was complete) and, apparently, it shouldn’t be famous because it was built in the 19th century; thus, it is still a relatively new castle!

Instead of having a great time, this person hated the London Eye so much that they put it at the top of “worst experiences” in their life! It’s kind of hard to understand why this reviewer had such a bad time at the London Eye — there must have been at least one thing that they appreciated, right?

Empty rooms and boredom!

You can tell that the Belém Tower is an important historic location with that piece of information, right? Well, it seems like this Yelp reviewer disagrees with that! Instead of appreciating all the relevant events that took place at the tower, this person was just mad that they had to wait to get in!

Who wants to see a clock?

Personally, we’ve never met anyone who thinks that Big Ben is boring — and that’s why this Yelp review is so shocking! Big Ben is a landmark, and we can only wonder why does this person think that Big Ben is just an overrated clock tower?!

Ice-cream robbers!

When we travel, we have some of the most incredible and unforgettable experiences of our lives. If you’re traveling with a group of friends, these experiences are tenfold — and together, you’ll create memories that will be with you forever! This next Yelp reviewer will certainly agree with that:

While they visited the beautiful Helsinki Cathedral in Finland, this reviewer and their group of friends were completely shocked as they peacefully ate ice cream: birds started grabbing their ice creams from their hands! We’re pretty sure that this reviewer and their friends won’t forget this trip!

Is this name adequate for this place?

Natural scenery is one of the most fascinating and wondrous parts of the world we live in, right? Some incredible things happened on Earth that we can’t really explain; we can only appreciate them in awe — and the Giant’s Causeway in Ireland is one of those things!

Due to a volcanic eruption, over 40,000 basalt columns now stand at this location. Because of these amazing natural columns, legends started surfacing as people believed that this location was actually a causeway built by a giant. When this reviewer visited the Giant’s Causeway, he was pretty disappointed that he didn’t get to see the giant or any leprechauns in the area. We hope he knows that these things are called legends for a reason!

Why did you go there in the first place?

We can say that there are two types of people in this world: there are those who love spending their time outdoors, appreciating nature, or going on adventures. And then there are those who would much rather spend their free time indoors, visiting museums, or just hanging out at the mall with friends.

This Yelp reviewer is obviously an outdoorsy person, someone who likes to go on adventures such as rock-climbing or rafting. When they decided to visit the iconic Rijksmuseum in Amsterdam, this person couldn’t understand what the fuss was all about. Our question is: if you know you’re more of an outdoors person, why would you visit a museum in the first place?!

This Yelp reviewer, however, was disappointed to see that the channel was underwater when they visited Venice. The thing is: all channels are underwater! We guess this person didn’t know that!

They’re not just some rocks!

Stonehenge is one of the world’s greatest mysteries. Built somewhere between 3000 BC to 2000 BC, this monument has been studied and admired for centuries, yet no one knows exactly why or how it was built — especially considering that some of these stones weigh 25 tons each!

While most tourists are left in awe by the sheer scope of this monument, this Yelp reviewer was impressed for another reason: she was impressed that these “plain” “rocks” were so famous! If she thought it was boring to look at stones, we wonder why she paid for it in the first place!

Soccer is more entertaining than this, apparently!

If you’re interested in architecture, you probably know that Barcelona is a haven for architecture lovers. This incredible city is home to some of the most beautiful buildings in Spain, including the Casa Milà, which was designed by the world-renowned architect Gaudí.

There’s a lot to be appreciated at Casa Milà, especially considering that this incredibly modern-looking building was built in the early 19th century. This reviewer, however, thought that this monument was simply boring and would prefer to watch a soccer game — though we don’t know how these two things compare!

Why so many stairs?

With a maximum height of approximately 120 meters, the Cliffs of Moher are the perfect location for those who love to go sightseeing. Because of its immense beauty, this location is one of the top-rated tourist attractions in Ireland, but not every visitor appreciates it, apparently:

This Yelp reviewer hated three things about the Cliffs of Moher: they hated the rain, they hated the wind, and they hated the stairs that lead up to some points in the cliffs. Well, we understand why this person got upset over the stairs — but does that small detail really ruin the experience of visiting the Cliffs of Moher and seeing all of its beauty?

Did you really want that, though?

If you’re thinking of visiting Florence, Italy, you’ll certainly come across the name “The Uffizi Gallery” at some point. This art museum is top-rated among art lovers, especially because it hosts an amazing collection of artworks from the Italian Renaissance period.

One of the artworks on display at The Uffizi Gallery is the Medusa, a famous oil painting. The thing is: this painting isn’t actually depicting the “real” Medusa (from Greek Mythology) but is instead a self-portrait of the painter. This Yelp reviewer didn’t seem to get that and thought that the painting wasn’t realistic — mainly because it didn’t turn him into stone! We wonder if that was something that this guy was really looking forward to!

Just a big shop!

Did you know that the Tate Modern is the most visited museum in Britain? This museum hosts one of the largest collections of modern and contemporary art pieces in the world, with exhibits that date back to 1900. However, some visitors don’t think that the Tate Modern is really all that interesting!

This Yelp reviewer visited the Tate Modern before the pandemic, and it’s safe to say that they were utterly unimpressed by this renowned museum. According to this person, it didn’t even look like a museum, but rather like a multilevel shop!

Overrated museum?

To be completely honest, who doesn’t love The Beatles? This iconic rock band revolutionized the music industry, and their legacy still stands strong nowadays! The Beatles are so famous that they even have their own museum — though it doesn’t seem to please all fans who visit it!

This person visited The Beatles Story, the Liverpool museum that depicts the story of the band, and was disappointed. In their opinion, the museum is way too cheesy, and people are better off not wasting their money to visit it. But if you’re a true Beatles fan, you’re going to love this museum either way, isn’t that right?

Mannequins?

This Yelp reviewer, however, had a different perception of the Edinburgh Castle. Instead of loving to learn about the location’s history, this person thought that the castle was actually overrated! They also mentioned some mannequins — and we kind of agree that they’re a bit overwhelming!

Okay, we get it that you hated it!

Thanks to the internet, we’re now able to do most things online, as well as being to learn about pretty much anything for free. When we’re planning a trip, one of the first things we do is visit a travel website and read what other visitors have said about a certain place. This next reviewer was certainly not afraid to voice her honest opinion about her visit to Portugal’s Pena Palace:

This Romanticist castle was built in 1854, as per the request of King consort Ferdinand II. The thing about this castle is that, considering that it relatively new and part of the Romanticism movement, its design is different from that of Gothic castles. The Pena Palace is quite colorful, and that’s why this reviewer compared it to Disneyland — though we’re not sure if that’s a bad thing.

There’s a reason for that!

The Alhambra in Granada, Spain, overlooks the entire city. Do you know why that is? Simple: it’s because this location was once a very important fortress in the region! Built somewhere between 1353 and 1391, the Alhambra has been a refuge to artists, intellectuals, and others who needed a place to hide.

Now classified as a World Heritage Site, the Alhambra is visited by thousands upon thousands of tourists each year. However, it seems this Yelp reviewer didn’t read anything about this fortress/castle before visiting it. Because of that, this person complained about the Alhambra being “underwhelming” — the thing is that that was the goal of the Alhambra when it was first built. It is a fortress and not exclusively a palace, after all!

You couldn’t miss that pun, could you?

The Palace of Versailles is one of the most popular locations in France and one of the most important monuments in the country. Several historical events took place at this palace, including the signing of the Treaty of Versailles, which marked the end of World War I.

On top of being home to the French Monarchy, the Palace of Versailles is also a great example of French architecture in the 17th and 18th centuries. However, according to this Yelp reviewer, Versailles is so boring that it might as well have been called “Ver-sucks” — there is no pleasing some folk, right?

No chairs?

If you’re thinking of visiting the iconic Edinburgh Castle, there’s another attraction you can visit just down the road: Arthur’s Seat. This extinct volcano is one of the highest points in Edinburgh and will give you a great view of the city!

In order to save you the disappointment, we’re giving you a heads up: there are no chairs on Arthur’s Seat! This Yelp reviewer was obviously upset about that fact, which means that they certainly didn’t do any research prior to visiting this location. If they had done that, they would’ve known that the name Arthur’s Seat is related to the legend of King Arthur, and not to an actual seat!

Just some ruins!

The ruins of Pompeii are one of the most popular tourist attractions in Italy. This ancient city became known after its remains were excavated centuries after Mt Vesuvius erupted and totally buried the city under lava. Many tourists visit the region to learn more about this city’s history that lay hidden from view for many years.

This reviewer, however, was absolutely disappointed when they visited Pompeii. According to them, there was nothing of significance at this location, just some ruins. We wonder what they were expecting to see there, considering that this city is advertised as “the ruins of Pompeii”!

Which one came first?

When we think of France, the first thing that comes to everyone’s mind is probably the Eiffel Tower. This iconic landmark is visited by over 6 million tourists every year, making it the third most popular attraction in France.

Considering the year in which it was built, the Eiffel Tower has always impressed the world because of its avant-garde design. This Yelp reviewer, on the other hand, was anything but impressed by the tower. In fact, he thinks that the Eiffel Tower is underwhelming and is a mere copy of the Eiffel Tower in Las Vegas. We do hope he knows that the tower in Paris was built in 1889 — over 100 years before its tiny replica was erected in Vegas!

Were you expecting to find a restaurant?

If you’re visiting the UK and you’re looking into outdoor activities to try, you’ll probably come across the name “Ben Nevis”. This mountain is the highest peak in the entire British Isles, reaching approximately 1,345 meters at its summit. Safe to say that it’s not an easy climb at all.

This reviewer and his girlfriend obviously forgot to check how long it would take them to climb Ben Nevis. Pro tip: if you’re not used to climbing mountains, don’t start off by trying to climb the highest mountain in the United Kingdom! Also, don’t expect to find anything on top of a mountain except great views!

Boring for young adults!

The Roman Baths in Bath, England, is a former bathing facility that was built during the period known as Roman Britain, back in 60 to 70 AD. The fact that this monument is still standing today is impressive, but not every visitor seems to agree with that:

According to this “young adult,” the Roman Baths are boring and are appealing only to older visitors. We wonder if she’s aware that appreciating historical monuments has no age limit — you don’t have to be part of the “older generation” to be interested in our society’s history!

Are you sure you’re not looking for an amusement park?

Warwick Castle in Warwick, England, is one of the most visited attractions in Warwickshire county — this castle has received visitors since the 17th century! Considering that it was built back in 1068, Warwick Castle has experienced quite a lot!

Because Warwick Castle is an actual castle and has witnessed important moments in English history, we think that it’s pretty crazy that this Yelp reviewer compared it to Disneyland! However, we certainly agree that visitors shouldn’t have to pay for every single thing when visiting a historic monument!

Don’t be so dramatic!

The Vatican’s Sistine Chapel is easily one of the most famous attractions of all the Roman Catholic churches in the world. Not only is it the location where new popes are selected, but it is also home to two of Michelangelo’s most incredible works.

Let’s be honest: who hasn’t seen the Sistine Chapel ceiling? Even if you have never traveled to Vatican City, you must have at least seen a picture or two of this masterpiece. Did you know that it took Michelangelo 4 years to finish that entire painting? Yeah, it did. Now guess how Michelangelo would’ve felt if he had read this Yelp review calling the Sistine Chapel (and, consequently, his work) a waste of time!

Well, that’s what you find in museums!

One of Portugal’s most visited attractions is the Castelo de São Jorge, or Saint George Castle, in English. This national monument was built somewhere around the 1st century BC. Due to having existed for so long, this castle was the stage for several important moments in Portuguese history.

Nowadays, this castle is also a museum, with exhibits that show Portugal’s history through the centuries. This reviewer visited Saint George Castle and was disappointed to see that it was “just another old castle” and that the museum inside the castle had broken artifacts — but maybe this Yelp reviewer forgot that that’s what museums do; they collect and preserve ancient artifacts that were already broken when they were found!

What has the Queen done to you?

The Royal Family owns many properties around the United Kingdom. One of these properties is the Palace of Holyroodhouse in Edinburgh, which is the Queen’s official residence whenever she’s in Scotland. When Her Majesty is not in residence, the palace is open to the public — and this visitor had quite a strong opinion about the palace!

While this person took the time out to visit the Palace of Holyroodhouse, it’s pretty clear by their Yelp review that they disliked the experience. Instead of enjoying the experience, this reviewer could only think to say that the Queen never stays at the palace — which is not true, considering that Her Majesty visits the palace once per year!

At least clean your windows!

Built during the Cold War in East Germany, the Berlin Television Tower is the tallest building in this European country and is also one of the most visited attractions. In addition to being a TV and radio tower, this building is also open to the public, who can visit a restaurant and an observation deck within the tower!

Most tourists visiting Berlin make a stop at the Tower — and this Yelp reviewer was no different. However, while most visitors appreciate the amazing view from the tower, this person hated it so much they even called the Berlin Television Tower a scam! Though we have to agree that the windows in the observation deck should be cleaned more often!

Is this what you call a great view?

One of the top-rated tourist attractions in France is the Arc de Triomphe, an arc commissioned by Emperor Napoleon to honor all the young soldiers who fought and helped France in important wars. Inside the monument, one can even visit a museum or climb the stairs to get a panoramic view of Paris from the Arc de Triomphe.

When this athletic reviewer visited this historical monument, they were disappointed that they had to climb so many stairs only to get a not-so-pleasing view of the city. For those who are thinking of visiting Paris, we have two tips: 1) the Arc de Triomphe looks just as great from the outside, so there’s no absolute need to go inside; 2) You can get a great view of Paris from the Eiffel Tower, just saying!

Why wait so long?

You may not know this, but Old Holland is often considered the capital of cheese! Many products come from the Netherlands that are deemed the best in the world, and cheese is just one of them. In fact, cheese is so appreciated in the Netherlands that they even have a museum dedicated exclusively to this food!

The Amsterdam Cheese Museum gives you free tastings of the best cheese you’ll ever taste, but it also tells you the story of Dutch cheese and the process that goes into making this delicious food. This Yelp reviewer visited the museum and bought a cheese wheel but he didn’t open it in time and his cheese was covered in mold by the time he finally opened it. Our question here is: why wait 2 months to eat delicious Dutch cheese?

But that’s what people do at this monument!

When we think of Italy, a certain monument comes to mind almost immediately: the Leaning Tower of Pisa. It’s amazing to think that such a “vulnerable” structure could withstand the trials of nature (several earthquakes have hit the region of the tower) and time (the tower was completed back in the 14th century) for as long as it has!

Now, let’s be honest: tourists can be pretty cheeky when they visit iconic monuments. Touristy photos can be quite creative, and you’ve probably seen how tourists take pictures at the Leaning Tower of Pisa; most people pretend that they’re holding the tower and preventing it from collapsing. This Yelp reviewer thought that the tower was boring and claimed that he had nothing to do other than taking pictures — but maybe he doesn’t know that that’s what people do at this monument!
